A Brief Sit-Down with Parm Dhaliwal, the visionary behind Steelix Developments, the developer of Harlo; coming soon to Clayton.
What inspired Steelix to create Harlo?
Harlo will forever be known as a foundational pillar of the Steelix portfolio. Developing homes in the communities that we’ve grown up in is very important to everyone at Steelix, so we are thrilled to offer Harlo as our first multi-family development project. Designed to withstand the test of time, we are proud and fortunate to be able to start our story in the community of Clayton. We want to continue to tell the story of the community surrounding Harlo by highlighting its unique landscape of city vibrancy combined with natural park spaces. Harlo looks and feels like something that doesn’t exist in Clayton, yet. From day one, we’ve always talked about creating elevated parkside living. As much as we’re building Harlo for the homeowners who are getting to know Clayton for the first time, it’s important to us that it is truly a community development. We’ve worked diligently throughout this process to get feedback from the existing community to understand how to seamlessly integrate our ideas into the established neighbourhood structure. We want to bring a fresh perspective to the Clayton community by continuing to highlight the neighbourhood’s connection to nature and integrating it into our developments.
Why is Clayton attractive to potential homebuyers?
Clayton is a neighbourhood that is easy to fall in love with for a number of reasons. As the community continues to flourish, we want to provide an updated perspective with which to live-play-grow. Harlo provides the desirable combination of city and suburban living in a highly sought-after location. On top of being affordable and easily accessible, Clayton is well-serviced by current transit infrastructure and is located along the planned expansion route for the SkyTrain, keeping residents conveniently connected to city life. Our market research indicated that the community was in need of condo spaces as single-family homes continue to become less affordable and available.
We have designed Harlo to appeal to a wide range of homeowners by integrating forward-thinking amenities and a fresh perspective on building community. In a growing neighbourhood like Clayton, it’s important to build homes that meet and exceed the needs of people in many different stages of life. The family-friendly Clayton neighbourhood is a great place to raise children within walking distance of a number of green spaces. For Millennials who are moving away from home for the first time, Harlo provides the ability to stay close to their families and the communities they’ve grown up in. It is an affordable alternative to having to move away from the city life that they’re used to while giving them a space to call their own. Current Clayton residents and downsizers that love the neighbourhood will enjoy the walkability of Harlo’s location, while investors will benefit from the attainable financial commitment and neighbourhood growth potential.
What is your favourite feature at Harlo?
We have creatively designed an environment that all of the homeowners at Harlo will be proud of. If I had to choose one feature that stands out the most to me, it would be the two rooftop patios that are accessible to every resident. These spaces can also be used as exceptional extensions of residents’ workspaces as more people continue working from home. Unique to the Fraser Valley, the stunning Mt. Baker views will highlight these relaxing spaces that are perfect for unwinding at the end of a long day or week.
We are proud to be part of the Clayton community and applaud everyone who has helped us with this project. We are excited to introduce Harlo as Clayton’s newest resident and look forward to furthering our relationship with our neighbours.
